From Classroom Farewell to University Adventures: Embracing a New Chapter

My last few posts consisted of me declaring that I was leaving/gone from the classroom for good. But then unpaid bills started piling up. Since that time I got a position as a part time instructor at a local university. Same same but different. So now some of my posts will be about my part-time instructor journey, now teaching mostly freshmen some university survival tips through experiential case studies, and teaching research and debate skills. They also learn to write papers and "try" not to use ai for help. I have to keep reminding myself that they are just a couple of months away from being high school kids, but I want to treat them like adults. This means that I still get excuses when work is not turned in on time, or when they decide to skip class. I just have to remind them of school policies, and that (sometimes) shuts them down, and usually ends with them whining under their breath. Then I have to remind them that I came from a background of teaching high school, then they straighten up, cause they know that NOTHING SCARES HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS, lol.

I'll have to admit, however, that this has been a nice experience. I'm not questioned about my knowledge by the students - in fact, most make me feel like I'm actually doing THEM a favor, rather than the other way around. I don't have to do yard or hall duty, I don't have to deal with parents, and I don't get any back talk when I ask them to put their phones away. And get this: admin treats me like a professional! I had to tell the Dean to ignore my bouts of PTSD whenever I'm being asked for input concerning a department decision.

So yeah, I've left the High School classroom, but not the classroom. Don't worry, I still have y'all's tech-needs back :)

Speaking of tech needs, try this awesome, FREE ai tool that helps you correct essays. YES, I typed it correctly. But remember, it HELPS, and doesn't do the entire job, but every little bit counts, right? Go to: https://automark.io/
