Top 5 Ways AI is Transforming High School Classrooms
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the world around us, and the education sector is no exception. AI is being used in high school classrooms in a variety of ways, from providing personalized learning to grading assignments. In this blog post, I will discuss the top 5 ways that AI is transforming high school classrooms.
Personalized learning: AI can be used to personalize learning for each student. This means that students can learn at their own pace and focus on the areas where they need the most help. AI-powered learning platforms can track student progress and adjust the content accordingly. Free examples are: Duolingo (over 30 different foreign languages), Khan Academy, Carnegie Learning, Formative, and Ivy.ai
Grading assignments: AI can be used to grade assignments, freeing up educators' time so they can focus on other tasks. AI-powered grading tools can be used to grade essays, math problems, and other types of assignments. Of course this means having the students submit work electronically. Some free tools are: Gradescope, Turnitin, Copilot, SchoolAI, and AICheatCheck. Note that these can only correct multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions, though Turnitin can give initial suggestions on essays and paragraphs.
Virtual tutoring: AI can be used to provide virtual tutoring to students. This is especially helpful for students who need extra help or who are struggling with a particular subject. Virtual tutors can answer questions, provide feedback, and help students learn at their own pace.
Creativity and innovation: AI can be used to foster creativity and innovation in the classroom. For example, AI can be used to create interactive simulations, generate creative text, and help students solve problems in new ways.
Accessibility: AI can be used to make education more accessible to all students. For example, AI-powered tools can help students with disabilities learn and participate in the classroom.
AI is a powerful tool that can be used to transform high school classrooms. By using AI, educators can provide personalized learning, grade assignments, provide virtual tutoring, foster creativity and innovation, and make education more accessible to all students. As a person in the below-referenced article said, "AI is fire." By using these and other techniques, we can control this "fire", preventing an all-out "urban conflagration" (a word I just learned - I love writing!).
If you are a high school or above educator, I encourage you to explore the ways that AI can be used in your classroom. There are many resources available to help you get started, and the benefits of using AI can be significant.
